People often ask: How much has wood burning technology developed? And how much of an impact is it having in Canterbury?

Here are the answers:

  • New wood burners use advanced combustion techniques to greatly reduce emissions. This has led to a noticeable improvement in air quality, with particulate matter levels dropping significantly in the last two decades.
  • Canterbury has seen serious improvements in air quality over the last 20 years. The National Environmental Standard for Air Quality (NESAQ) sets guidelines for acceptable levels of particulate matter in the air. Canterbury used to struggle to meet these standards. However, with the introduction of ultra-low emission burners, which release significantly less particulate matter into the air, Canterbury has been able to achieve and maintain compliance with the NESAQ.

The Serene is part of the new generation of ultra-low emission burners.

  • Ultra-low emission burners have not only helped Canterbury meet the NESAQ standards, but also improved the overall public health of the region. This is a great example of how technology can be used to address environmental challenges and improve the quality of life for locals.
  • In addition, other measures such as education campaigns and incentives for households to replace old wood burners with cleaner alternatives have also contributed to the improvement of the air quality in Canterbury.

Most importantly, Canterbury's air quality has improved and now meets the National Environmental Standard for Air Quality. This is a major achievement and shows the importance of technology and collaboration in addressing environmental challenges.
